Agapé Care Centre Kitchen Revamp
Agapé is a dedicated care centre providing accommodation and support for disabled persons, initiated by the Jubilaé retirement village in Winburg. The centre is run by Willie and Joekie along with their daughter Adel. Both Willie and Joekie have received training in the care of paraplegics. The residents’ ages range from 19 to 87, but they all refer to Willie and Joekie as ‘mom’ and ‘dad’. More than half of the residents need assistance with their basic care needs.
Another major task is to provide continual stimulation. Those with the capacity have been taught basic skills like helping in the kitchen or garden, needlework or carpentry.Agapé receives no state funding and operates on a minimal budget. Vela VKE supported them with funds to revamp their kitchen and cooler rooms, for which they are very grateful.
